Patriarchs of the Church Abraham, Isaac and Jacob
Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob are known to be the spiritual ancestors of Judaism. They all founded the religion we all now know today as Judaism. The history was all extracted from the written Torah, Talmud, and Midrash. Many scholars today have questioned the actual existence of these men and if the historical information is actually accurate or not. Though, archaeologists have found these men in Babylonia and Troy.
Abraham
Abraham was born in the city of Ur in Babylonia. Abraham was the son of Terach who was a idol merchant. During Abraham's early childhood, he had questioned his father's faith and went out to seek for the truth. He came to a conclusion that the universe itself was created by one single creator, so he then went on to teach his beliefs to others. Abraham was constantly trying to convince his father. There was one day where Abraham was left alone in his father's store. Abraham had hammered all the idol figurines expect the largest figurine there was. When his father returned to the store, Abraham mentioned how the idol figurines had all fought each other, which resulted in the hammered up pieces. His father responded and told Abraham, "Oh son, do not be ridiculous, these idols do not have power or life." Abraham exclaimed, "Then why do you worship such thing?" Eventually one day, God had called Abraham. He had told Abraham to leave his family and his home and God would make a better nation and bless Abraham. Abraham accepted God's offer.
Isaac
Isaac was Abraham's most difficult test God had placed him upon. God had commanded that Abraham sacrifice Isaac as a burning offer. The test that God had placed upon him is known as the jewish tradition called the Akediah. This was also a test upon Isaac and to see his faith. Isaac knew he was the subject of a sacrifice and did not hesitate to play such a role.
Jacob
Jacob was the son of Isaac and Rebecca. Jacob appears in Genesis as the individual of the twelve tribes that were apart of the "children of Israel". In Genesis, Jacob seized his brother's heel during his birth. Esau, Jacob's brother was given the name Israel after it was given to him by an angel.
